Seasonal Communications Content Assistant - Washington Capitals (Washington, DC)

Monumental Sports & Entertainment (“MSE”) is one of the largest integrated sports and entertainment companies in North America with one of the most diverse partnership groups in all of sports.   MSE owns and operates four professional sports teams: the NBA’s Washington Wizards, NHL’s Washington Capitals, WNBA’s Washington Mystics and the AFL’s Washington Valor, to start operations in the 2017 season and the anticipated acquisition of a D-League NBA Basketball team before the 2018-19 season.   The company also owns and operates the Verizon Center, the premier sports and entertainment venue in the mid-Atlantic, based in the center of Washington, D.C. The company oversees the management of Kettler Capitals Iceplex, the state-of-the-art training facility for the Capitals, and George Mason University’s EagleBank Arena.  The company has partnered with Washington D.C. and Events DC to build a new state-of-the-art Entertainment and Sports Arena at the St. Elizabeth’s campus in Ward 8 in Washington, D.C. which will become the practice facility for the Washington Wizards and home court of the Washington Mystics.  Monumental Sports Network, a digital platform that covers the region’s sports and entertainment news across mobile and OTT streaming devices, is also owned by MSE.

Position Overview: The Washington Capitals Seasonal Communications Content Assistant is responsible for assisting in all day-to-day operations of the Communications Department. This is a paid part-time position that requires a commitment beginning in August 2017 and runs through the duration of the of the 2017-18 NHL season.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely and collaborate with full-time communications staff members to help coordinate public and media relations efforts of the department.
  • Provide written content for WashCaps.com and media relations editorial efforts.
  • Compile daily media clips.
  • Prepare graphics and editorial content using Adobe InDesign.
  • Provide editorial and research support for statistical projects.
  • Manage team photographs including archiving.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachlors degree.
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign.
  • Dedicated, hard-working, punctual, dependable, self-reliant, resourceful and a team player.
  • Self-starter who takes the initiative and utilizes their decision-making abilities.
  • Strong writing, editing, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work on deadline, manage multiple tasks while working independently or as part of a team.
  • Candidates must have a flexible schedule and the ability to work early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays, and must be available for all Capitals home games.

Position Overview: This part-time seasonal position will assist the Washington Capitals Public Relations Department. Game Day staff will assist with duties during Capitals preseason, regular season and playoff home games throughout the 2017-18 season.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with media lounge and press box set up.
  • Distribute credentials to media.
  • Pass out statistics between periods.
  • Record postgame quotes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Organized with the ability to multi-task and problem solve in a fast paced work environment.
  • Hard working, detail oriented and results driven.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to be a team player and enjoy working in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Customer-service oriented.
  • Previous public relations, communications, or journalism experience preferred.
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Flexible schedule – Available for at least 90% of Capitals home games (typical game night hours: 4-11 p.m.)

Position Overview: The Washington Capitals Seasonal Communications Assistant is responsible for assisting in all day-to-day operations of the Communications Department.   • Work closely and collaborate with full-time communications staff members to help coordinate public and media relations efforts of the department.
  • Assist with game day preparation including credentials, seating and other media services.
  • Assist the media relations department during preseason and regular-season home games with press box and media lounge set up and the management of game day staff.
  • Attend all visiting team morning skates and serve as a resource for visiting media and media relations personnel.
  • Able to work various hours, nights and weekends and attend all preseason and regular season home games (plus playoffs) during the season. Please be aware that many games fall on weekends and several are played during traditional holiday seasons.
  • Facilitate various requests by media members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Dedicated, hard-working, punctual, dependable, self-reliant, resourceful and a team player.
