Monumental Sports & Entertainment (“MSE”) is one of the largest integrated sports and entertainment companies in North America with one of the most diverse partnership groups in all of sports.   MSE owns and operates four professional sports teams: the NBA’s Washington Wizards, NHL’s Washington Capitals, WNBA’s Washington Mystics, AFL’s Washington Valor and the AFL’s Baltimore Brigade, to start operations in the 2017 season and the anticipated acquisition of a D-League NBA Basketball team before the 2018-19 season. Additionally, MSE owns Team Liquid, one of the leading e-sports teams in the industry. The company also owns and operates the Verizon Center, the premier sports and entertainment venue in the mid-Atlantic, based in the center of Washington, D.C. The company oversees the management of Kettler Capitals Iceplex, the state-of-the-art training facility for the Capitals, and George Mason University’s EagleBank Arena.  The company has partnered with Washington D.C. and Events DC to build a new state-of-the-art Entertainment and Sports Arena at the St. Elizabeth’s campus in Ward 8 in Washington, D.C. which will become the practice facility for the Washington Wizards and home court of the Washington Mystics.  Monumental Sports Network, a digital platform that covers the region’s sports and entertainment news across mobile and OTT streaming devices, is also owned by MSE.

Position Overview: The Venue Entertainment (Guest Relations/Marketing/Communications) Intern will support the daily operations and assist in the efforts of promoting events at both Verizon Center and EagleBank Arena. This is a paid internship.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in composing and distributing monthly calendars and maintaining appearance and stock in kiosks at Verizon Center
  • Organize event folders in previously established fashion and assist in transferring event information into current system
  • Update charts and competing events calendar
  • Responsible  for providing event and administrative assistance at select events
  • Assists Guest Relations coordinator with the set up and monitoring of general admission area for concerts without floor seating
  • Prepares event signage
  • Assists with creating Guest Relations department mailings and correspondence
  • Assist with the Guest Relations Lost and Found program
  • Assists with event equipment set up
  • Assist in providing guests with general building information
  • Shadows managers during events/assist on event night press operations as needed
  • Assists the Guest Relations Coordinator with pre-event activities and preparing event information
  • Contributes to printed/digital content related to event publicity and Monumental Sports & Entertainment (i.e. press releases, event recaps, newsletters)
  • Assist in researching and coordinating grassroots and promotional efforts for events
  • Assist in analyzing and tracking advertising efforts
  • Updating weekly growth charts for social media accounts
  • Updating event listings online with local media outlets
  • Coordinating/monitoring news clippings via media tracking report
  • Assists in creating social media promotions for events including graphic design elements
  • Editing and updating arena websites
  • Researching, coordinating  and creating media events as needed
  • Responsible for maintaining department filing system, copying and researching projects for the assigned departments
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Previous game night experience a plus, but not required.
  • Team player; excellent communication skills; creative.
  • Ability to multi-task; detail-oriented.
  • Available to work in the office 20 hours a week & game nights as scheduled.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word. Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Facebook, Twitter.
  • General knowledge of professional sports.
  • Reliable transportation and housing.

Position Overview: This internship introduces students to the sports industry by providing the opportunity to assist with and learn about corporate sponsorships and brand activation in the Partnership Marketing Department of Monumental Sports & Entertainment. This is a paid internship.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Partnership Marketing Managers and Corporate Partnership Directors in creating sponsorship proposals, presentations, recap reports and spreadsheets using Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, ClearSlide, Digideck and Excel.
  • Provide administrative support for Partnership Marketing Department.
  • Utilize research programs such as Scarborough and surveys to provide potential clients with compelling data on Capitals, Mystics, Wizards, Valor and Brigade fans.
  • Manage the inventory of various signage.
  • Organize game photos by client after each home game.
  • Staff games, client receptions and other special events such as season ticket holder parties etc.
  • Database management assistance.
  • Assist staff with general day-to-day operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Flexible and able to problem solve in pressure situations.
  • Comfortable communicating with other internal departments and clients.
  • Able and comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs. boxes.
  • Reliable transportation and housing.
  • Available to attend events that occur outside normal business hours (i.e. game nights, promotional/fan development events, community relations appearances).

Position Overview: The Television Production intern will assist with the production of in-arena shows for Monumental Sports Network. This is a paid internship.

Responsibilities:

  • Gain valuable industry experience by assisting producers and editors with content production for Monumental Sports Network’s original programming and the Capitals, Wizards and Mystics in-arena shows. 
  • Learn broadcast video standards through a hands-on environment.
  • Accompany and engage with videographers on location in the field.
  • Opportunity to see and participate in daily television production operations for three professional sports teams (Capitals, Wizards & Mystics).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student..
  • Submit link to video reel or example of work.
  • Basic knowledge of video camera setup and operation.
  • Basic knowledge of non-linear editing principles.
  • Knowledge of Premier preferred but not required.
  • Working comprehension of basketball & hockey and an interest in sports.
  • Experience in live-production and control room setting preferred.
  • Must be able to multi-task, work independently and within a team.
  • Must have positive attitude, motivated mindset and willingness to learn in a fast-paced, pressure-filled environment.

Position Overview: The Graphic Design Intern will assist with editing and creating graphics for various forms of media. This is a paid internship.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with creation of collateral including flyers, signage, schedules, print advertisements, splash pages, etc. following brand guidelines.
  • Develop cohesive design solutions for both print and web applications.
  • Use production techniques such as color correcting and creating clipping paths to prepare files.
  • Assist with editing and creating graphics for website.
  • Assist with post-production and planning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Able to send a PDF portfolio under 5mb when contacted.
  • Strong typography and layout skills.

Position Overview: The Strategy, Research, & Digital Marketing Intern will work closely with both the Business Intelligence and Email Marketing groups to provide support to all initiatives regarding consumer insights, data analytics, and Oracle Eloqua. These channels help us track and execute all interaction between MSE and the customers of our sports properties including survey analysis, marketing strategy, and mass email distribution. Our intern will learn through on-the-job experience about professional database management and data analytics. This is a paid internship.          

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze large data sets to determine relevant trends and significant data points
  • Research best practices for data analysis
  • Design and create graphics for email marketing team
  • Build mass email communications and surveys through Eloqua and analyze interaction metrics
  • Contribute to CRM and data analytics initiatives across the marketing department
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Proficiently experienced with Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiently experienced with Photoshop or Photoshop equivalent

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor media coverage of the organization, including compiling daily clips.
  • Assist with development camp.
  • Manage team photographs including archiving.
  • Prepare clippings/notes/storylines on NHL Awards/Draft.
  • Draft and edit press releases, media advisories and other editorial content.
  • Write and edit material for use in the team’s annual media guide.

Position Overview: The Washington Capitals Community Relations and Youth Hockey Intern will be responsible for assisting in all day-to-day operations of the department focusing on community outreach and growing the game of hockey. This is a paid internship.

Responsibilities:

Position Overview: The Guest Services Intern will have the opportunity to see firsthand how a successful Guest Services department within a large, complex and diverse organization such as the Washington Wizards functions. The Guest Services Intern plays an integral part in the setup, execution and breakdown of our DC 12 Club Membership events. The Guest Services Intern will also assist with the daily tasks and responsibilities that help make the Washington Wizards a first class Guest Services department. This is a paid internship.

Responsibilities:

  • Learn departmental policies and procedures.              
  • Assists and supports the Guest Services department with Service and Retention initiatives including special events, welcome packets and season ticket member benefit fulfillment for the upcoming season. This may include, but is not limited to:
    • Assist with event set up, coordination, and execution of member events and receptions.
    • Track and maintain inventory of autographed/promotional items and season ticket member collateral materials.
    • Learn and use Archtics ticketing system and SalesForce for reports, account set-up and updating season ticket member records.
    • Engage season ticket base through personal interactions at events; provides superior customer service and collaborates with full-time staff to enhance the fan experience.

Minimum Qualifications:           

  • Undergraduate or Graduate student in good academic standing.

  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and willingness to communicate face-to-face with our season ticket members.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative assistance to all staff as needed/requested.

  • Assisting in the maintenance and distribution of our “Community Tix” program through direct contact with participating groups.
  • Assisting in our correspondence regarding non-profit group tickets, auction tickets, giveaways, and donations.
  • Responding to fan mail and requests for team items.
  • Aiding in player appearances and autograph session as needed.
  • Helping to develop new and enhance current community programs to be implemented throughout the season.
  • Learning and maintaining the office procedure for incoming mail, calls, and faxes.
  • Provide game day coverage for Community Relations events such as Silent Auctions, Collection Drives, Player Sponsored, Section Nights and Autograph Sessions.
  • Assisting the Community Relations staff in any other responsibilities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Reliable transportation and housing
  • Team player; excellent communication skills; creative.
  • Ability to multi-task; detail-oriented.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word. Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Facebook, Twitter.
